One in three people who were granted asylum in the United States during the last year had come from China, according to an annual report by the federal government’s Executive Office for Immigration Review.
According to the report, 35 percent of asylees during the 2007 fiscal year hailed from China, while 5 percent came from Colombia and 5 percent from Haiti. That’s out of the 12,807 people who were granted asylum during the year.
The acceptance rate for asylum cases was about 46 percent for the year. Asylum is granted to people who come to the United States fleeing persecution or a fear of persecution because of their race, religion, nationality, political beliefs or affiliation with a particular social group.

Do they check for spies? The Chinese seem quite determined in that arena.
12K for an entire year does not seem like a signficant number or impact compared to Millions of Illegal Immigrants.
