Speaking in both Spanish and English, Latino politicians made brief speeches supporting Barack Obama at the Democratic National Convention in Denver on Monday.
“He’ll defend our borders, and enact … smart immigration policy,” said Congressman Silvestre Reyes, D-Texas.
Congresswoman Grace Napolitano, D-California, and Congressman Jose Serrano, D-New York, also made speeches in support of the Chicago Senator.
But local Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez, interviewed on Southern California Public Radio 89.3 KPCC, said Obama does not have the strong track record with Latinos of John McCain, Senator from Arizona.
Immigration was part of today’s theme, at least for NDN, a group that bills itself as a progressive think tank and advocacy group and organized a forum on immigration.
Over on sister blog Total Buzz intern Jessica Terrell spent some time with the Minutemen who rallied in Denver.

Fellow citizens, please take note of these Hispanics representatives’ names. They are pro illegal and are only serving the illegal Hispanic population. They are responsible for turning our nation into a third world country.
Be sure to VOTE THEM OUT at your next opportunity.
“He’ll defend our borders, and enact … smart immigration policy,” said Congressman Silvester Reyes, D-Texas.
“Smart immigration policy”. What’s that? Amnesty.
You’re exactly right spitzer09. The printed pages of the OCR talked about Hillary Clinton speaking in front of the Democratic National Committee’s Hispanic Caucus. It also mentioned Art Torres as the California Democratic Party Chairman.
Wasn’t it Art Torres who made the following remarks in a speech?
“Que viva la causa! It is an honor to be with the new leadership of the Americas, here meeting at UC Riverside. What is it going to take for our people to vote - to see us walking into the gas ovens? It is electoral power that is going to make the determination of where we go as a community. And power is not given to you — you have to take it. REMEMBER: THIS IS THE LAST GASP OF WHITE AMERICA IN CALIFORNIA AND NEXT THE REST. Understand that. And people say to me on the Senate floor when I was in the Senate, ‘Why do you fight so hard for affirmative action programs?’ And I tell my white colleagues, ‘because you’re going to need them.
Art Torres is on the same page as: Fabian Nunez; Joe Baca ; Gloria Molina; Loretta Sanchez; Tony Villar et al.
People better wise up.
Honestly guys, Hispanic Representatives for the most part represent a largely Hispanic constituency (actual citizens that voted). Of course they are going to fight for their constituents that is exactly why they were DULY elected. The joke really is that people are going to try so very hard to keep the earth from spinning - quit being homos.
Other minority groups would not vote for Latinos, but they need a big hand from Caucasians to vote those Latinos out. I agree that they only care for illegal immigrants from Mexico, not for Americans as a whole.
They are the most racists that I ever encounter, but they claim that they are victims of racism from Caucasians and Blacks. How pathetic.
